The world’s largest underground cave in Vietnam + pictures
Located in Phong Na Ke Bang National Park, Quang Binh Province, Vietnam, Son Dong Cave is the world’s largest underground cave, so deep that a 40-story building can easily fit inside. This cave is 9 kilometers long, 200 meters high and 150 meters wide, and a forest, river and waterfall are located in it.
This magnificent place was first discovered and explored 4 years ago. The discovery of this cave in 2009 was considered the biggest discovery of the year. Of course, for the first time a local man named Ho Kan managed to discover this cave in 1991, but due to the fear of the natives and local residents of this cave and its strange whispers and whistles that were created due to the flow of river water, the secret of its discovery was revealed. The seal remained until it was rediscovered in 2009 by a group of researchers led by Howard and Deb Limbert. However, the calcite walls blocked their way and stopped the search. Another exit of the cave was discovered in 2010. The first tourist group managed to visit it in early August 2013 by paying 3 thousand dollars per person. Other tours are planned to be organized soon.
The forest located in this cave, which was called Edam Garden by the explorers, is the habitat of monkeys and flying foxes (a special type of fruit-eating bat). Yes, in fact, another world is located in this depth of the earth. Son Dong is rich in all aspects, the calcite crystals formed over millions of years give it a special look. At the same time, fossils with an age of 300 million years have been discovered in it and new species of plants have been observed near the river and waterfall of this cave.
In this part of the earth, a suitable opportunity for exploration and search has been given to the enthusiasts, so that adventurous people can make the most of this chance and take a step forward in investigating and exploring this cave.
Of course, for now, to enter this cave, it is necessary to register in certain sightseeing tours, which provide visitors with a four-day tour including camping inside the cave.
