China’s Taihang mountain range stretches over 250 miles (400 km) and crosses three provinces of the country. While they are a truly stunning sight to behold, the mountains are as tall as they are difficult to climb.

 

 

Recently, the tourism authorities in Linzhou, Henan province decided to make the mountains accessible to tourists, so they came up with an interesting solution. There is only one problem: you must be under 60 years of age to visit, or you must not have any special disease or heart disease.

 

 

Nicknamed the “Stairway to Heaven", the massive spiral staircase rising to the sky in China’s Taihang Mountains in Linzhou, Henan Province allows visitors to see natural scenery like never before.

 

 

This huge stair tower is 300 feet high.

Most peaks range in height from 5,000 to 6,500 feet (1,500 to 2,000 m), with the main peak, Xiao Wutaishan, reaching 9,455 feet (2,882 m).

 

 

Before going up the stairs, visitors must sign a consent form for their heart and lung diseases and problems such as fear, etc.

 

 

People over 60 years old are not allowed to climb the stairs at all!

 

 

 

 

If you’re wondering why they didn’t just build an elevator, you’re not alone. Officials explain: “It’s windy here and they’re going to ruin them.

 

 

And the wind blows at the visitors, the birds fly past them, the stairs creak. Therefore, it brings the thrill of seeking adventure to the visitors compared to the elevator."

 

 

Chinese tourism officials in Linzhou, Henan Province, hope the stairs will offer visitors a true climbing experience.
