Gunung Gading National Park in Malaysia
Malaysia has many national parks, one of which is Gunung Gading National Park, a park that has nature trails, eye-catching waterfalls, a spectacular peak, and most importantly, the rare Rafflesia flower. It has become the most attractive national parks in Malaysia.
“Gunong Gading" National Park is the habitat of Rafflesia, the world’s largest flower, whose diameter reaches even more than one meter. This flower has no specific season, but it flowers more in the rainy season. It takes 9 months for this flower to grow, after that flowering takes 4 to 5 days and after this time the flowers die. Since this flower is rare and has a short flowering period, you should consider the right time to watch it. You can ask the park staff about the flowering time of this plant because they usually have good information about this flower. Although these flowers bloom all year round, November, December and December are the best months to see them.
Seeing a fully opened Rafflesia flower is the most attractive attraction of this national park, however, this park and Lunda region have many attractions that are worth visiting. The uneven mountain peaks in this park have created spectacular views of the park, the city of Lunda and the surrounding beaches, and besides all of them, there are many paths for nature and forest tours that can challenge you. In this park, most of the climbing is done in one main route, but this route also has a series of branches that you can choose for climbing if you are less physically fit.

You need to be physically fit for hiking, it takes 3-4 hours to go to Gunung Gading peak, and in some parts of the route, serious and difficult climbing awaits you. On the main climbing route, the closer you get to the peak, the steeper the route and the more difficult it is to navigate. The summit trail starts from the end of the waterfall trail and it usually takes three hours to complete it. Since the main route is almost deserted, you have the chance to see some of the wildlife of the national park. There is no view at the top of this peak, so maybe you don’t have much enthusiasm to reach the top, only a series of small wooden boards announce that you have reached the peak.
The remains of a British military camp dating back to the 1960s can still be seen on the summit. Just use your imagination and go back in time when soldiers patrolled here. Go from the peak to the valley. This two-hour route is almost easy and takes you to a rock shelter that was once a military camp. Don’t forget that it gets dark early in the rainforest, so be sure to have a flashlight and plan to get back to the forest before dark.

Nature hiking in the night trails is both adventurous and fun in these trails, sometimes turn off the flashlight, sit in a comfortable place and listen to the night sounds of the forest in silence, and sometimes see the bright eyes of an animal from afar. The shortest and easiest nature hiking route is the one that passes by 7 waterfalls, not all of them are suitable for swimming. Waterfalls 1, 3 and 7 are marked on the map and you can only swim in waterfalls 1 and 7. The water of these waterfalls is very cold, but after a long nature trip, swimming in them is sure to stick and can refresh your soul. On this route, you will pass through the forest through a winding road and it will take about 1 hour to reach the last waterfall, waterfall number 7.
There are no shops or stores in this national park, so either you have to bring enough food with you or stay hungry! In the forest, there are a series of cabins to stay in, which are fully equipped and have a kitchen. It is better to buy the necessary food from the city of Kuching, because the city of Lunda has only one small shop, which has nothing to buy other than a few essential foods.
The beauty of this park is that you don’t need any guidance, you can spend enough time and explore this park at any speed you like. All nature trails are well marked, so it is not possible to lose your way, just have enough water and food with you and you can easily go hiking and climbing.
